by Alice L. Luckhardt

To her countless friends and family alike, they all agree that Alice Louise Walters Wallace; this Florida-raised, intelligent, lovely individual, appears to be the invincible woman, the unflinching rock or harbor, where a person always felt secure and nurtured. Yes, this is the same individual who has endured so much over her 85 years. The 'lost' and death of husbands and four sons are just part of her heartache. She has personally suffered from countless medical procedures, nearly dying several times. However, there are her numerous blessings and opportunities not afforded to most individuals. She received flying lessons from Amelia Earhart, was friends with Frank Buck, John Hertz, Jr., Beverly Sills, aviator Annette Gipson, Seminole Indians Jimmy and Larry Osceola, just to name a few. She grew up during the 'growth' of Miami, FL from the 1920s and 1930s and then worked as an adult to help build Miami into the city it is today. Giving back to the community would prove to be her greatest accomplishment. Besides working and volunteering as a nurse, she was instrumental in establishing handicap parking, recertification of registered nurses and affordable kidney dialysis centers. She kept an optimistic attitude and approach to her spirit. Alice has always felt there wasn't anything she couldn't surmount. If there was a skill she lacked, she learned how to do it. Her own life is truly an inspiration to countless people and she has taught by example. The phrases, "Why me?" or "I can't do this!" have never been a part of her vocabulary. Alice is a "can do" person, one with eternal passion, drive and endurance.
